What's a vibrating plate and why should I try it?

Ever wonder what this machine does?

Our Personal Trainer, Amy Burkhardt, has this to say about the benefits of the vibrating plate:

I get asked rather frequently, what the benefits are of the vibrating plate.  Here's an article I found to be beneficial. I personally use the vibrating plate at least 2-3 times a week.  I have found it to help greatly with my lower back pain and overall muscle recovery when I use it after a hard leg day.

Key potential benefits of a vibrating plate:

  • Muscle Strengthening:

Vibrations cause muscles to contract rapidly, leading to increased muscle activation and potentially faster strength gains compared to static exercises.

  • Improved Balance and Stability:

Standing on a vibrating plate challenges your body to maintain stability, which can improve balance and coordination.

  • Bone Health:

Studies suggest that whole-body vibration may help increase bone density, potentially reducing the risk of osteoporosis, especially in individuals at risk.

  • Faster Muscle Recovery:

Vibration therapy may promote better blood flow, which can help with muscle recovery and reduce post-exercise soreness.

  • Potential for Weight Loss:

While not a standalone weight loss solution, using a vibrating plate alongside regular exercise may contribute to calorie burning due to increased muscle activation.

  • Lymphatic Drainage:

Some proponents claim that vibration therapy can stimulate lymphatic drainage, which may help remove toxins from the body.

  • Improved Flexibility:

By increasing muscle activation, vibration plates may also help improve flexibility and range of motion.

Important Considerations:

  • Consult a doctor: People with certain health conditions, including pregnancy, recent surgery, or bone fractures, should consult a doctor before using a vibration plate.

  • Proper technique is crucial: Using incorrect form on a vibrating plate can increase the risk of injury.

  • Not a replacement for exercise: While vibration plates can be a beneficial addition to a workout routine, they should not replace traditional exercise like cardio and strength training.
